Representative Towns Address Gathering(April 8 - Latham, NY) –Melrose Credit Union recently held its 86th annual membership meeting at Leonard’s of Great Neck. Of special interest was guest speaker Assembly Banks Committee Chair Darryl Towns (D-Metropolitan).
Assemblyman Towns spoke to the gathering about his whole-hearted support of credit unions, how the efforts they put forth in their communities have earned appreciation not only in his district, but across the state as well. He told the group that the more he learns about credit unions, the more impressed and supportive he is of their not-for-profit status. Assemblyman Towns also spoke optimistically about the health and welfare of New York State government in the capable hands of newly appointed Governor David A. Paterson.
“With over 900 members in attendance and Assemblyman Towns presence and words of support for credit unions, I believe that this annual meeting may have been one of our best yet,” said Alan Kaufman, CEO/treasurer of Melrose CU.
During the meeting, attendees also received Board, Treasurer’s and Supervisory reports, among others. Service awards were presented to Bobby Singh-Hussein, 15 years; Sandra Cardona, 10 years; and Yvonne Uram, five years.
Credit unions are not-for-profit, member-owned financial institutions. Melrose Credit Union was chartered in 1922. It currently has 19,225 members and more than $900 million in assets. For more information, go to www.melrosecu.org.
