Five credit unions (GHS FCU, Horizons FCU, Sidney
FCU, UHS EFCU, Visions FCU) in the Southern Tier chapter of the
League, and the chapter itself, supplied the funding for six
automated external defibrillator (AED) training units for the local
chapter of the American Red Cross. The units, which help save the
lives of those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest, are used to help
train students taking CPR, AED and first aid classes at the Red
Cross. In recognition of the donation, the Red Cross presented the

Visions FCU sponsored two teams of
volunteer bowlers for the Annual ARC Pin Crushing Bowling Tournament
that supports the Broome/Tioga ARC Day Habilitation Program. Becky
Barrett, from Horizon’s Lockheed Martin branch, was on a streak,
winning both the women’s high single with a 205 and the women’s high

Representatives from Visions FCU, GPO FCU and the
USDA break ground on a new state-of-the-art soccer complex that will
serve over 300 children, plus have the ability to host numerous
community events. The three entities are financing the large sports
dome for the Rising Stars Soccer Club, a non-profit organization
that brings children from various communities together as one.

The Southern Tier chapter of the NYSCUL took home
the “Most Creative” award during an ice cream topping contest for
their “Memories and Possibilities” topping, a combination of both
traditional and modern toppings on a banana split, which evoked
childhood memories while looking ahead to the future. The event was
part of a fundraiser for the Children’s Home of Wyoming Conference
held August 8. Volunteers from Empire FCU, GHS FCU, Horizons FCU,
Sidney FCU, SEFCU, UHS EFCU and Visions FCU also lent a hand at the
event serving ice cream, parking cars, and more. This is the fifth
year the chapter has participated in the event.

Broome County’s Day of Caring on September 9. Danielle House

For the fourth year in a row, members of the
Communications Council of the Southern Tier district participated in
the 46th Annual Ice Cream Social to raise funds
for the Children’s Home of Wyoming Conference. The organization
provides emergency assistance to children who have been neglected,
abandoned, abused, or suffer from mental or emotional disorders.
From their ice cream topping efforts, the group raised $500, which
