We encourage all credit union leaders and supporters to join us for our legislative visits when we “hike the hill” to show lawmakers that New York State’s credit unions stand together on the issues for which we advocate and the concerns we share. Play in a tournament at the beautiful Capital Hills Golf Course to benefit CUPAC, the League’s statewide political action committee. Support your New York Credit Union Foundation (NYCUF) during “An Evening of History & Art” at the Albany Institute of History & Art. Be sure to take in the sights and sounds of our state capital and its many shops, restaurants, theatres and attractions. The Annual Business Meeting and GAC are two of the League’s biggest events of the year, so let your voice be heard and your presence felt by showing unity as a statewide and industry-wide movement. Who Should Attend? All New York State credit union leaders—presidents, CEOs, managers, volunteers and credit union delegates who value their commitment to the credit union movement and want to make sure credit unions continue to thrive in New York State—should attend this year’s event. It’s important for credit unions to meet with their state legislators—both newly elected and seasoned veterans—or their staff to educate and remind them of the “credit union difference.” You will have an opportunity to explain why their support and pro-credit union legislation is vital to your credit union and its members. If you’ve never participated in GAC, make this year the time to start! League staff will be on hand to provide legislative briefings, handouts, advice and practical tips on how to make the most of your visits with legislators. If you have participated in GAC many times, you can mentor your peers and help advance the League’s state legislative agenda. Remind our elected officials that our credit unions exist for service, not for profit. Emphasize that support for credit unions means solidarity with their constituents and enlighten them on credit union friendly legislation. On Tuesday, May 20, attend the League’s Annual Business Meeting to show support for your credit union leadership and our organization’s future. Plan on attending this tightly packed three-day schedule designed for New York’s credit unions to stand unified and reaffirm the credit union difference.
