(June 30 - Latham, NY) – In its continuing relationship with Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center, the Credit Union Association of New York has donated a Wii game for the children and adolescents who are temporarily residing at the hospital.
"We couldn’t think of a better game to give the children than a Wii," said William J, Mellin, president/CEO of the Association. "Wii is an interactive and socializing experience; one we thought might be able to take a youngster’s mind off his or her health challenges however briefly.
The Wii donation included a gaming console, two Wii controls, a charging station and the WiiPlay Board Game Collection, which comes with an additional remote and nine games, including billiards, fishing, ping-pong and more. Extra games added to the package were Transformers: The Game, Bee Movie Game, Super Smash Brothers Brawl, My Sims and Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games.
The association raised the money for the game and its accessories by holding a raffle among employees for an Apple iPod.
Accepting the donation at the Association’s headquarters was Brenna Griswold, a certified child-life specialist for The Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center.
"We feel honored to accept the Wii game system from the Credit Union Association of New York," said Brenna Giswold, certified child life specialist for The Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center. "This new game system is a wonderful addition to our children’s hospital because the game itself is designed to be played by moving your body around rather than staying stationary. Kids, who outside the hospital are usually very active, can utilize this game system to expel some of their energy or simply move around and have fun! We look forward to our continued relationship with the great staff at the Credit Union Association of New York."
The Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center is a 125-bed facility devoted exclusively to the medical needs of infants, children and adolescents, and is the referral center for all seriously ill and injured children from 25 counties in upstate New York and western New England. It is staffed by 110 physicians in 34 subspecialties and more than 300 pediatric nurses, therapists, social workers and child-life specialists.
The Credit Union Association of New York has served as the trade association for the state’s credit unions for 91 years. It is the fifth largest league in the country.
