(July 18 - Latham, NY) – Newly-elected assembly members Ellen Jaffee (D-Rockland) and Kenneth Zebrowski, Jr. (D-Rockland) joined representatives from the Westchester-Rockland chapter of the New York State Credit Union League for an informal lunch at Palisades FCU to discuss issues impacting today’s credit unions.

After reviewing items from the League’s legislative agenda, the discussion moved on to the needs of underserved areas. The group shared their thoughts on how credits unions, in keeping with their "people helping people" philosophy, are uniquely positioned to help serve those that cannot or are not receiving services from more traditional financial institutions.

The visiting legislators extended thanks for all the information they received from the credit unions and league representatives in attendance.

"Local credit unions realize the importance of their legislators," said host Mark Welshoff, president/CEO of Palisades Federal Credit Union. "Gatherings like this are a good opportunity for credit union professionals to dialogue with their representatives, voice their concerns and to gain their support."

Joining Palisades FCU at the get together were credit unionists from Empire State CU, SUMA (Yonkers) FCU and USAlliance FCU. Representing the League at the event was Amy Kramer, vice president of Governmental Affairs and Allison Doney, advocacy specialist.

There are 32 credit unions in the Westchester-Rockland area. Together they serve more than 171,000 members and have in excess of $1.8 billion in assets.

The New York State Credit Union League (NYSCUL) has served as the trade association for the state’s credit unions for 90 years. It is the fifth largest league in the country.
