(October 10 - Latham, NY) – Another member of New York’s congressional delegation has added her name to CURIA’s list of supporters, bringing the total number of New York’s co-sponsors to 14. Joining New York’s group of official backers is Yvette Clarke (D) who represents District 11 in the Metropolitan area.
Like Reps. King and Hall, who signed on to CURIA last week, Clarke was visited by credit union and League representatives during New York’s "Hike the Hill" day in Washington, DC on September 26. Those participating in that particular visit came away from their meeting optimistic about her co-sponsorship.
"What a great ‘Hike’ event," said William J. Mellin, president/CEO of the League. "Everyone who participated in the 20 legislative visits scheduled for that day went in to encourage support for CURIA. We all know how important legislation that would bring about the modernization of credit union regulation is to the future of credit unions and our country’s economy."
The New York State Credit Union League (NYSCUL) has served as the trade association for the state’s credit unions for 90 years. It is the fifth largest league in the country. New York credit unions have assets of more than $39 billion and 4.2 million members. To learn more about the League, visit www.nyscul.org.
