League Services
The New York State Credit Union League has worked "to serve and support credit unions" since 1917. As the trade association for 523 not-for-profit, member owned credit unions in New York; the League promotes the health and well being of the credit union movement at the national, state and local level. It is the fifth largest league in the country and has more than 100 employees.
The League provides services in the following areas:
CommunicationsThe Communications Department works to raise consumer awareness about credit unions and build essential relationships with the media and the general public. The Communications Department is also keeping credit unions informed of events within the credit union movement.
Compliance
Consulting ServicesThe Compliance Department serves as liaison between credit unions and many regulatory agencies, maintaining close working relationships with the National Credit Union Administration, the NYS Banking Department and others. Specialists are on hand to answer compliance questions and work with credit unions on issues that affect them daily.
The Consulting Services team is located strategically across the state to provide on-site service and support to New York’s credit unions. Management Consultants serve as the liaison between credit unions, the fourteen districts, and the League.
Education & Training
The department serves the professional development needs of member credit union volunteers, management, and staff. Standard services include district-sponsored education sessions, trainers’ roundtables, and local education programs. Credit union specific seminars, conferences and workshops are also regularly scheduled, and a scholarship program is available to those credit unions that could not otherwise afford training.
Governmental Affairs
The political arm of the League, Governmental Affairs advocates on state and federal levels on behalf of all New York credit unions and their members. The department helps credit unions achieve their legislative solutions, and assists them in organizing as a grassroots movement, to maximize their political clout.
Human Resources
Most credit unions in New York State will tell you their greatest single operating expense is human resources - often as much as 50% of their budgets. This significant investment is the reason NYSCUL provides board members, credit union managers, and credit union human resource managers with the information, tools, and techniques they need to ensure the effective management of their investment. This information is available in a variety of choices: HR Hotline, HR Online, Workshop and Seminars, HR Councils, and HR Job Posting Service.
